What's Inside

Animate Your Lessons

MODULE 1

Prepare the Outline

If you've been following me for a while, you know I'm a huge believer in learning by doing.  In addition, I believe the best way to learn something new is to know going in, even before you learn it, HOW you’re going to use this new information or new skill.  Doing it this way, will both motivate you and help you retain the information.

As such, this course was designed to be extremely hands-on, while at the same time, giving you the support you need to build what it is that YOU are going to be teaching.

In this module, you're going to select and prepare the set of lessons you're going to transform into the Digital Age!

Highlights:

  • Decide on the set of lessons you're going to transform - ideally a topic you've taught before.  Making this decision in the very beginning will ensure you can move forward feeling clear and confident.
  • Master the technique behind using future pacing to create lessons which help you replicate yourself in the classroom.

  • Learn how to translate words into images which fit seamlessly in your lessons.

MODULE 2

Create the Shell

One of the things I’ve really enjoyed about creating these types of lessons is that my students can tell this is a much higher quality than what they’re used to, and in a way this captivates them.

Creating aesthetically pleasing lessons is very important to me, and so I’ll teach you throughout this course, design tips and tricks you can easily implement to greatly increase the aesthetic appeal of your lessons.

In Module Two we’ll start this process while creating the shell for your presentation document.

Highlights:

  • How to take advantage of the amazing animation features Keynote has to offer, regardless of whether you're a Mac or PC user.
  • Use color palettes and simple design techniques to create quality title pages and backgrounds for each of your lessons.
  • Start learning my process for incorporating images into your lessons.

MODULE 3

Assemble the Imagery

Digital images have become such a big part of how we communicate, I believe fully understanding how to work with them, is a whole new type of literacy, and one that’s really important for teachers and students to master.

Although there are many different types of Graphic software out there, the basics are the same across the board.  In this module, I'm going to introduce you to these basics, so that you know what's possible and where to find answers to your questions.  My goal is to never again have you feel like you can't be as creative as you'd like to be, because you haven't yet mastered the technology behind what it is you'd like to create.

Highlights:

  • Master image editing techniques inside Keynote.
  • Get introduced to my secret weapon, the $10 app I’ve used to learn everything I know about creating and working with digital images.  I've used this app almost everyday for the last 7 years, and I really can’t live without it.

  • Learn how to modify a vector image you find online, match the colors of an image to the colors of your lesson, work with curved shapes, curve your text, work with gradients, and so much more.

MODULE 4

Craft the Slides

I said it before, and I'll say it again - the idea behind animating your lessons is to really grab (and hold!) the attention of your students.  You want their eyes on you at all times.  To the best of your ability, you want to captivate your students, as you make whatever it is you're trying to explain as interesting as it can possibly be.

In this module, I'll show you my one of a kind method for breaking down any concept into bite-sized, easy to digest pieces.

Module Highlights:

  • Dive into one of the most important strategies in the entire program: Crafting the Slides for Your Animated Lessons.
  • Break down the Animated Slide Creation Process slide by slide by slide, and learn exactly how to transform the scripts you've prepared into captivating slides ready for animation.

Animate Your Lesson

From texts to images and shapes, I’ll show you how to animate each and every item in your lessons, how to move in and out of the frame, and how to create on-slide animation with or without the magic move.

I’ll show you how to master the new dimension of time which is so core to animation, and teach you each and every trick I use to make sure my students stay captivated or at the very least engaged, as I walk them through an animated lesson.

Highlights:

  • Master the Animate Your Lessons Implementation Plan, my secret sauce if you will, so that you can follow a proven framework as you add animation to your OWN lessons!
  • Learn how to animate your lessons and create a solution which can be used both as an aid while you teach, and also as a flipped lesson your students can use independently - all without ever having to get on camera!

Present Your Lesson

Once you’ve implemented all the strategies from the first five modules, you’re ready for Module Six, where you’re going to learn different methods for delivering your animated lessons.

I’ll walk you through the different options you have for teaching, so you can select which approach is best for you. We’ll talk about how to use your animated lesson to basically replicate yourself in the classroom when teaching live. Then, we’ll talk about using your lesson as a flipped lesson, and finally, we’ll talk about using your lesson for independent study.

Highlights:

  • Learn how to put together worksheets to go along with your animated lessons, and even how to gamify this experience by adding a breakout twist to it.
  • Master the technique behind adding (optional) voiceover to your lesson when using it for independent study.
